This is not actually a parody if America nor a parody of Native Americans. It’s parody of German stereotypes of America and Native Americans as they were portrayed by Mark May. His depictions may not have been very accurate, but they were most influential to the German imagination. This imagination spawned the Winetou films from the 1960s. Now these are, what the parody is about.
A small group from the German House made the trip to Observatory hill tonight to take a look through the telescope. They didn’t even point the telescope at the moon, because you could only see a small fraction of its surface through it. They had a portable one for the eclipse. What we could see through the main telescope, though, was the Omega-Nebular and, the thing that impressed me most, the planet Saturn and its rings. Cool!
Join us at the German House for an evening of “German Games” and German conversation. Even if you know little or no German, come to see the house, we’ll translate. Meet the residents and have some fun! The Max Kade foundation will provide free soft drinks and snaks.
